The 19th Debian Conference will take place in Hsinchu, Taiwan, from July 29 to August 5, 2018. CIP will be on-site with a booth on Open Day on July 28 and a few speaking sessions during the conference.
Yoshitake Kobayashi, Chair of the CIP TSC and Senior Manager of Open Source Technology Department at Toshiba, will give a presentation on Sunday, July 29. The session, titled “Civilization runs on Debian,” that discusses the need for long term support and how the Civil Infrastructure Platform (CIP) project works with Debian.

Ben Hutchings, CIP and Debian kernel maintainer and software developer for Codethink, will present on Monday, July 30, about how to backport hardware support in Debian, what’s new on the Linux kernel and how to build Debian-based system images.

Wolfgang Mauerer, Senior Key Expert and Professor for Siemens AG and active CIP TSC member, is scheduled to speak on Friday, August 3 in a session titled “Are any big brothers watching you, and if yes, what can they tell about Debian?” This talk will showcase the most important results obtained by software engineering research, with a special focus on large-scale socio-technical analysis of projects like Debian, and the possible implications and improvements these may bring to Debian development itself.
